City of Arvada Announces Lorie Gillis as New City Manager

Following a national search, the Arvada City Council has appointed Lorie Gillis as Arvada’s next city manager. The appointment was a unanimous decision.

Arvada Mayor Marc Williams made the announcement on Tuesday, Aug. 9, stating, “I am pleased that Lorie Gillis will be the next city manager for the City of Arvada. Lorie is the right choice to serve the City organization, business community and Arvada residents, as we continue to manage the opportunities and challenges of our great community.”

Lorie GillisMs. Gillis has been Arvada’s deputy city manager since 2014. She will be the first female to hold the city manager position in Arvada.

“I am honored to have the opportunity to be appointed Arvada City Manager,” said Ms. Gillis. “I look forward to leading the incredible City team, engaging with residents and serving the Arvada community.”

Prior to working for the City of Arvada, Ms. Gillis served in various roles with Jefferson County Schools, including as Chief Financial Officer and Executive Director Budget Management and Development. Ms. Gillis also worked for the City of Golden as the Director of Finance and Administration. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree from Colorado State University in Business Administration, a Master’s Degree in Organizational Leadership - Applied Business Management from Colorado State University Global Campus, and most recently attended John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University, Executive Education, where she was awarded a certificate of completion for the Senior Executives in State and Local Government. 

Ms. Gillis will begin serving in her new role on Oct. 7, replacing current City Manager Mark Deven, who is retiring after 11 years of service to the community. To learn more about the selection process, visit

The City Manager reports to the City Council and provides strategic and forward-looking leadership to the entire City team to ensure appropriate and effective resource allocation supporting the Council Strategic Plan.
